the Red Carpet Her Personal Runway

While we know Kendall Jenner is a a master of the art of street style, September’s cover star has made a habit of applying some of her runway lessons to the red carpet. Watching older siblings Kim, Khloé, and Kourtney perfect their poses provided the catwalk queen with some inspiration regarding silhouettes and angles, but it was the young supermodel’s jet-set lifestyle that amped up her fashion acumen for more formal occasions.
At her first Met Gala in 2014, the then-18-year-old Jenner took a soigné turn in a custom Topshop strapless dress replete with a society swan diamond choker. Fast-forward to her subsequent spins at the Met in a mod frock from Francisco Costa for Calvin Klein Collection that demonstrated her versatility. At this year’s White House Correspondents’ Dinner, where President Obama name-checked the face of Esteé Lauder, Jenner opted for a sculptural, sultry number from Vivienne Westwood; weeks later she turned up at the Cannes Film Festival in a sheer dress from Peter Dundas for Roberto Cavalli Couture. But sometimes it’s best to keep it short, simple, and sweet like the Costa-designed frock Jenner wore to the Tony Awards in 2015 or the Olivier Rousteing–designed pieces she sported at the Billboard Music Awards and Vogue Paris Foundation gala dinner. Clearly, here is a young model who’s already mastered the art of making any carpet her own catwalk.
